Native of Wilton, Connecticut becomes 18th player on current roster with NCAA commitment

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Central Illinois Flying Aces forward Matt Gosiewski announced on Thursday his commitment to play NCAA Division I hockey at Colorado College.

Gosiewski is the third Flying Aces player to commit this season and the 18th player on Central Illinois’ current roster with an NCAA Division I commitment.

“It’s a huge honor,” Gosiewski said. “It’s obviously a tremendous school academically. I love the direction the program is heading, and I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of it.”

In his first season with the Flying Aces, Gosiewski is currently fifth on the team in scoring with nine points on four goals and five assists. The Wilton, Connecticut, native has played in 15 games so far this season.

“We’re very excited for Matt on his commitment to Colorado College,” said Mike Watt, the Flying Aces head coach and general manager. “Matt has worked extremely hard for this opportunity and CC is a great spot for him to continue his hockey and academic career. Our entire staff could not be more proud for Matt and his family.”

Gosiewski is in his second full season in the USHL. He played in 39 games for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in the 2015-16 campaign and registered 13 points that year. In 60 career USHL contests, Gosiewski has 11 goals and 22 total points.

In his first game with the Flying Aces in early October, Gosiewski tied the single-game team record with a four-point outing. He posted two goals and two assists in Central Illinois’ 5-1 win over the Youngstown Phantoms that night, equaling a feat that has been accomplished seven other times in team history. Gosiewski also posted a multi-point game on Oct. 28 against the Dubuque Fighting Saints with a goal and an assist.
