Stay up to date with the latest scores and notes from the Flying Aces' 2018 Main Camp

The Central Illinois Flying Aces' 2018 Main Camp is part of the process of setting the roster for the 2018-19 season, which will be the organization's fifth as a member of the USHL. More than 150 players will participate at the camp, including returning players, affiliate list players, the Flying Aces' draft picks and free agents.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Following goaltender sessions on Wednesday evening, the Flying Aces' 2018 Main Camp gets underway in earnest on Thursday afternoon as more than 150 players will compete in games starting at 3 p.m.

Registration will take place from 11-1 p.m. before a player orientation session at 1:15 p.m. The puck drops on the first game of the 2018 Main Camp at 3:00 p.m. at Grossinger Motors Arena in downtown Bloomington. Each of the eight teams will play one game on Thursday.

  • In fitting fashion, Trevor Janicke, the Flying Aces' first overall pick in this year's USHL Phase II Draft, netted the first goal of main camp, tallying in the first period of Team Black's 3-2 win over Team White.
  • Calen Kiefiuk, the first tender in team history and an alternate captain this past season, tabbed two assists for Team Black to lead all scorers in the first game. Kiefiuk led the Aces with 46 points during the 2017-18 season, which included 28 helpers.
  • Four different players picked up multi-point efforts as Team Gold earned the biggest win of the day, a 6-0 triumph over Team Orange. Nick Capone, who made his USHL debut with the Aces in March started the game with a pair of tallies, while Bloomington native and two-year veteran defenseman Brady Smith registered two assists.
  • In a matchup featuring three high-end picks from the Aces' 2018 draft class, Team Purple earned a 4-2 victory over Team Grey. Stephen Halliday (Phase I, 1st overall), Chase Foley (Phase II, 12th overall), and Philip Elgestål (Phase II, 15th overall) all played in that tilt.
  • Halliday posted his first goal of camp for Team Purple in their victory, while Elgestål jammed home a rebound to find the scoresheet for the first time in camp for Team Grey.
  • The final game of the night was a very balanced affair that saw 13 different players notch a point, as Team Green disposed of Team Light Blue.
  • Evan Carroll (Little Ceasers U16 AAA) tallied the first penalty shot goal of camp in Team Green's win. The penalty shot and chase took the place of any penalties on day one of games.
