BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Central Illinois Flying Aces announced a trade with the Waterloo Blackhawks on Wednesday afternoon.
The Aces have traded defenseman, Brehdan Engum, a 2019 Phase I 4th Round Pick and 2019 Phase II 1st Round Pick to the Black Hawks in exchange for defenseman, Michael Ferrandino and a 2019 Phase I 5th Round Pick.
Regarding the trade general manager and head coach, Mike Watt, said, “We wish Brehdan all the best, but to get a good player, you have to give that in return and that’s what we were able to do in the end.”
Engum came to the Flying Aces during the 2017-2018 season after serving as the captain of his team at Burnsville High in his hometown of Burnsville, Minnesota.
Ferrandino is in his third USHL season. He spent the previous two seasons with the Waterloo Black Hawks, helping Waterloo on their path to becoming the regular season champions during the 2017-2018 season. He tallied 14 assists through 58 games last season. The Lisle, Ill. native has 1 assist through 10 games so far this season.
Watt continued, “Michael is a veteran defenseman in the league that has high hockey IQ. He can help strengthen our D-corp, being able to move pucks up and be able to play in all situations. We’re happy to add somebody like that this early in the year and he will be very good for our organization.”
The Flying Aces also announced that Chaseton Sare would be joining the team. Sare previously joined the Aces at main camp this summer and most recently played for the El Paso Rhinos in the WSHL.
Ferrandino will be in the line up for this weekend’s games including Salute to Service Night on Saturday, Nov 10 at 7:07pm and Sunday Funday, Nov 11 at 4:07pm.
