The Central Illinois Flying Aces have announced this week that they have traded forward Max Ellis and a Phase-1 2019 draft pick to the Lincoln Stars for Philippe Lapointe, a forward, and a conditional 2020 draft pick.
Ellis joined the Flying Aces this season and spent the two years prior in Youngstown with the Phantoms, where he racked up twenty-two goals and thirty-two assists in 107 regular season games. Ellis is committed to play for the University of Notre Dame.
Regarding the trade, head coach and general manager, Mike Watt said, “We had to give up a good player in Max Ellis, who will help the Stars right away, and we wish Max all the best in the future and thank him for his contributions to our hockey club.”
Lapointe is in his second USHL season; he spent both previous seasons with the Lincoln Stars. There, the University of Michigan commit, played eighty-five games and had eight goals and twenty-nine assists. While with Lincoln, the eighteen-year old also played for the U.S. National Under-18 Team where he scored a goal and an assist at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
Watt continued, “We are very excited to add Philippe to our line up. Philippe brings a high compete level and skill set that will add to our group. He likes and can play in high traffic areas, which is what we thought we lacked in capitalizing on chances. He was a leader in Lincoln, wearing an “A”, so he will help on and off the ice with his high character and leadership attributes.”
The Aces will play Chicago this Saturday, following up with a Sunday game against Madison at Grossinger Motors Arena.
