BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Central Illinois Flying Aces were not able to solve the Youngstown Phantoms netminder, falling 3 to 0 in the Sunday afternoon matinee.

Play was even through the first two periods with Youngstown finishing the second with twenty total shots and Central Illinois registering nineteen shots on goal. Each team also had one opportunity on the power play, but neither could crack the opposing goaltender.

The Phantoms broke the scoreless tie at early in the third with a goal from Brett Murray, the league’s leading goal-scorer. Jack Malone won a face-off back to Ben Schoen who drove towards the net and found Murray on the backdoor for a deflection.

Malone scored the second of the period for Youngstown late in the third with a sharp angle shot against the grain. The Phantoms finished the game with Murray’s second goal of the night for a final score of 3 to 0.

On Wednesday (Feb. 27th), Central Illinois will play a rare weeknight game at Grossinger Motors Arena against the U.S. National Team Development Program Under-18 Team. This will be followed by a three-game weekend. Friday, March 1st, Central Illinois hosts Cedar Rapids. On Saturday and Sunday, they return to Green Bay for a two-game series.
